About the Council

The National Council of Public Finance (CNFP) is an independent body created by the law of 12 July 2014 on the coordination and governance of public finances.

The CNFP independently assesses the public finances of Luxembourg.

Its tasks relate to the monitoring of fiscal rules and content requirements that budgetary authorities are required to adhere to in the context of multi-annual fiscal programming laws.

The CNFP also monitors the application of the automatic correction mechanism in case of a significant deviation from budgetary targets and evaluates macroeconomic and budgetary forecasts used for budgetary planning. 

The CNFP is a member of the Network of EU Independent Fiscal Institutions.
